The cover of Steps to Christ features horizontal lines that suggest a path or steps upward—a simple pattern that reflects the book’s theme of drawing closer to Jesus, one step at a time.

The cover includes an anti-scratch coating for durability and features holographic foil that subtly reflects the full spectrum of light—a reference to the rainbow surrounding God’s throne (Ezekiel 1:28) and a reminder of His glory and faithfulness.

When it comes to book design, the best typefaces are the ones you hardly notice. Your eyes glide effortlessly from letter to letter, word to word, and line to line. That might sound simple, but designing a typeface that reads so beautifully is anything but. After extensive exploration, we chose Pensum Pro—a warm, highly readable font family created by TypeMates, a foundry in Germany.

The way a page feels and looks matters. We selected EOS Salzer, a premium uncoated paper with a soft, natural tone that’s gentle on the eyes and a pleasure to touch. Its subtle texture adds warmth and substance without distracting from the words, creating an experience that feels both timeless and inviting.

Each book uses an OTA lay-flat binding, designed to open easily and stay open as you read. Every page is carefully sewn in, not glued, for strength and flexibility that will last through years of use. It’s a small detail, but one that ensures the book feels as enduring as the message it carries.

Most editions of Ellen White’s books retain the original page numbering to make citations easy, but this can limit design and readability. To preserve both accuracy and aesthetics, we created a dual page numbering system. The black numbers at the bottom of each page show this edition’s numbering, while the gray numbers reference the original edition. Symbols in the outer margin mark the first full paragraph of each original page, making it simple to locate or cite any passage.
