The Opportunity

Andrews University Press asked Types & Symbols to design the cover of God With Us, by John C. Peckham. This important book, which provides an overview of Adventist theology, was written for a general audience as well as undergraduate students and needed to feel appropriate both in the home and the classroom.

Concept

We explored a range of concepts for the cover, but ultimately selected a direction that celebrates the beautiful moment on the road to Emmaus when Christ chose to walk with and comfort two of His distraught disciples soon after His resurrection.

Solution

We created an illustration based on the painting The Way to Emmaus by Robert Zünd, and used this on both the dust jacket and the hardcover.

The illustration is printed lightly in the background on the dust jacket with the title of the book presented in bronze foil. The illustration is repeated under the dust jacket with foil blocking into the cloth hardcover.
